Personal Assistant – Kilmaurs
Hours
- Flexible up to 18 hours per week
- Early mornings 7 am–9:15 am some full days 7–4:30 pm
- Evenings 6–8 pm and Saturday daytime
Salary
Living wage rate – £13.73 per hour. Wages paid 4 weekly in arrears by a payroll service.
Annual Leave
5.6 weeks paid annual leave pro rata for contracted staff.
Job Purpose
To support a young man with Down’s syndrome, autism, associated sensory and learning disabilities, developmental delays, and chronic reflux disease.
Provide practical, emotional and social support.
Qualifications
- Patient, kind and sensitive
- Assertive but calm, firm yet gentle
- Clear, slow speech
- Able to swim
- Driver with own car
Experience
- Experience supporting someone with Down’s syndrome and autism advantageous
- Experience supporting people with communication difficulties and sensory challenges
- Knowledge of Makaton sign advantageous
- Education or early‑years training useful for literacy and numeracy development
Responsibilities
- Help the young man wash and dress in the morning
- Prepare and serve breakfast; support eating and drinking
- Assist with medication intake
- Wash dishes
- Prepare for day out (brush teeth, hair, etc.)
- Support travel to and participation in day‑to‑day activities such as ten‑pin bowling, gym, swimming, all‑ability bikes
- Support at work experience
- Attend evening social groups
- Weekend social support
- Assist with home duties after the day (wash, tidy, packed lunch, dishes)
- Ensure safety
