P/T Personal Assistant / Companion required to provide Personal Care assistance, Social Support and companionship to a young woman who lives with Multiple Sclerosis and is now wheelchair dependent. She lives in her own accommodation in the Dreghorn area. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
Duties:
- Personal Care: Support with personal care including hair washing, showering, continence care, dressing, breakfast preparation and medication prompting. Essential hygiene housework tasks such as clearing dishes, laundry, bed making. Food preparation / batch cooking.
- Social Support: Shopping tasks, putting away grocery deliveries, attendance at appointments and accessing the wider community such as going to clubs, events, cinema, ten-pin bowling, meals out. Assist with taking a small pet dog to the groomers or vets if required. Judge when to speak up on the employer’s behalf, ensuring independence. Maintain the employer’s confidence and independence while supporting social interaction.
Qualifications & Expectations:
- Friendly, cheery, easy-going, sociable with a genuine interest in supporting independence.
- Like animals – must be comfortable with a small friendly pet dog.
- Understanding of MS and experience working with clients with physical disabilities is desirable.
- Preferable to be a driver with a current driver’s licence, use of own car and business insurance.
- Must undergo a new PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and supply 2 reference contacts prior to appointment.
- 6-month probationary period; 1 week’s notice during probation if the post does not work out.
