Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6 hrs per week.

Days / Hours: Proposed shifts: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm. Days flexible – to be discussed at interview.

Rate of Pay: £14.56 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and companionship to a young man with Autism living with his family in the Kilwinning area.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring his safety at all times.
  • Must be physically fit and able to respond quickly as he can run off if distracted.
  • Assist with his access to the local community, including going to the gym, swimming pool, and other recreational activities.
  • Support personal care as needed, such as prompting to get dressed after swimming.
  • Encourage and reassure him in a positive way; remain calm, friendly, cheery, and easy-going.
  • Accompany him to football games, stadium visits, and other outings; may require longer shifts to travel further afield.
  • Assist with music and theatre interest activities; support confidence to attend theatre events.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience of working with young adults with Autism is essential.
  • Must have a driver’s licence, own car, and business insurance.
  • Must be physically fit and comfortable assisting with swimming (despite his own inability to swim).
  • Mileage costs will be covered for work-related travel; wage rate incorporates a travel allowance.
  • Must undergo a new PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and provide two reference contacts before appointment.
  • There is a 6-month probationary period with one week’s notice during that time if the post does not work out.
