Post: P/T Personal Assistant/Support Worker to a gentleman in South Ayrshire.

Hours: 6 hours per week. Days Required: Tuesday evening and one other flexible day.

Salary: Living wage rate – £13.45 per hour.

Job Purpose: To support a young gentleman in accessing and participating in a range of hobbies and interests, including accompanying and assisting as required.

Employer: The employer is the young man; payroll and employment support responsibilities will be administered by a relevant support organisation/payroll service.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the gentleman in engaging with community life and directed activities, guiding him to access facilities and equipment, communicating, and maintaining relationships with peers.
  • Drive and transport the employer to various locations.
  • Provide business-use car insurance, a clean driver’s licence and a road-worthy car.
  • Reimburse mileage.
  • Receive training as required.

Person Specification:

Attributes (Essential Criteria):

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and lead active lives.
  • Relevant qualification(s).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills reflecting social inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Understanding of the crucial role of family carers and good person-centred practice.

Experience:

  • Experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.
  • Ability to engage effectively and work in partnership with others, supporting people to achieve positive outcomes.

Personal Qualities:

  • Similar interests to the gentleman, who has a wide range of interests.
  • Good sense of humour, down to earth, and a good listener.
  • Reliable and flexible.

The Person’s Interests: Martial Arts

Additional information: There is a 5.6 weeks A/L attached to the post, with 2 weeks potentially overlapping as the employer’s A/L. Probationary period of 6 months with 1 week notice during this period.

Security and References: Applicants must undergo a new or updated PVG disclosure scheme prior to appointment and supply two up-to-date reference contacts, one of which should be a current or previous employer.
