Hours: 9 – 12hrs per week

Days / Hours: (Earliest start 9.30am / latest finish 8.00pm) Days – to be discussed at interview

Rate: £13.45 – £14.59 per hour

Duties

  • Personal Assistants (female) required to provide Personal Care, Social Support and companionship to a young woman with Multiple Sclerosis who is now wheelchair dependent.
  • She lives in her own accommodation in the Dreghorn area and values confidentiality as the support is mainly in her home.
  • Personal Care
    • Assist with hair washing, showering, continence care, dressing and breakfast preparation
    • Medication prompting and essential hygiene housework tasks such as clearing dishes, laundry and bed making
    • Food preparation and batch cooking
  • Social Support
    • Assist with shopping tasks and putting away grocery deliveries
    • Attend appointments, access the wider community and accompany the client to clubs, events, cinema, ten‑pin bowling, meals, etc.
    • Help with pet care – taking a small dog to groomers or vets when needed
    • Speak up on the client’s behalf when appropriate, without taking away her independence

Applicants should be friendly, with a cheery personality, easy‑going, sociable and genuinely interested in supporting the client to maintain her independence. Animal friendliness is required as she has a small dog.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Understanding of Multiple Sclerosis and experience of working with clients with physical disabilities
  • Driver; current driver’s licence, own car and business insurance
  • Travel allowance is included; mileage costs will be covered for related travel

Successful applicants will undergo a new PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and provide two reference contacts prior to appointment. There is a 6‑month probationary period attached to these posts with 1 week’s notice within that time if the post does not work out.
