P/T Support Worker / Driver required in Dundonald. The role will cover 3 x 24‑hour shifts per 4‑week period on a working rota, with days changing and including sleepovers. You will be requested to cover for staff holidays and sickness.
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour for all hours worked.
Requirements:
- Previous experience or training in working with young adults with extra support needs is desirable but not essential.
- Being a driver with a clean driver’s licence is essential.
- Flexibility to be part of a good working team.
Duties:
- Assist with the socialising of a young man of 28 who has a placid nature and extra support needs, including taking him out in his own car to various activities.
- Assisting with personal care as required and administering and keeping medication records.
- The young man may use a wheelchair at times.
- Care will be provided within his home, so confidentiality and respect for his privacy and daily routine are essential.
Personal Tasks:
- Assistance/reminding to take medication; help with showering, bathing, drying, toilet use and changing pads.
- Assistance with eating and drinking, cutting up food, and liquidising foods for a soft diet.
- Assistance with shaving, dressing, oral hygiene, foot care, drying, and hair styling.
Household Tasks:
- Cooking and preparing meals, sandwiches, and drinks.
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, mopping floors.
- Household cleaning, including bathroom, bedroom, etc.
- Laundry and ironing.
- Changing bedding and bedding in the staff room.
- Dusting and hoovering.
General Tasks:
- Going to the local shops and assisting with shopping.
- Reporting any faults with equipment.
- Light household maintenance, such as changing a light bulb and using appropriate equipment and ladders.
Social Activities / Outings:
- Assisting with cinema, theatre, swimming, disco nights, clubs, appointments, and meetings with friends and family.
- Assisting with leisure activities, going out in the evenings, and walking.
- Driving – staff will require a full clean driving licence.
- Accompanying the young man on holiday (paid).
Wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears by BACS transfer. There are 5.6 weeks paid annual leave attached to this post. Annual leave is discussed at interview. A 6‑month probationary period applies, with a 1‑week notice within this period if the role is not working out. If using your own car, you must provide a copy of your driving licence and car insurance (including business insurance) and two up to date reference contacts, one of which must be from a present or most recent employer.
