Female Personal Assistant

Location: Cumnock, East Ayrshire

Job Outline: Support a young lady aged 20 with learning disabilities and sight impairment to socialise within her community.

Hours: 15 hours per week. Preferred days: Wednesday & Friday after Day Care Centre (2PM-6PM), Saturday or Sunday (11AM-6PM). Flexible as required.

Salary: Living wage rate – £13.45 per hour, paid 4 weekly in arrears.

Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks paid annual leave pro-rata for contracted staff.

Employer: This role is offered by an individual employer with administrative support from a relevant organisation.

Probationary Period: 6 months. Successful applicants must complete a PVG disclosure scheme and provide two up-to-date reference contacts before appointment.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Support the person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities directed by her family.
  • Assist with social activities such as swimming, ten-pin bowling, bus outings, music, dancing and other interests.
  • Provide a small amount of personal care task support while she is out.
  • Offer companionship in her own home when required.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as planned in advance.
  • Support the person’s choices and preferences throughout all activities.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and maintain an active life.
  • Understanding of person-centred practice and how to enable and empower individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and organisation skills.

Desirable:

  • Lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or in a similar role.
  • Experience working effectively and in partnership with others to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Good sense of humour, flexibility, reliability, and willingness to engage in community activities.

Attributes:

  • Ability to connect into community activities and build networks.
  • Open, friendly, down-to-earth attitude and good listening skills.

Applicants must be physically able to support the person in all activities and accept the 6-month probationary period.
