About The Role
We’re looking for the right person to spend time with – an 18‑year‑old young woman who enjoys a laugh, social time, and getting out and about, but also needs support to stay safe and manage her health. This isn’t a standard care role. It’s about building a genuine connection – someone who can spend time with her, chat, joke, do things together, and help her make the most of life while being there when she needs support. Some days are easy and full of fun, others aren’t – so we need someone who can go with the flow and take things in their stride.
About The Young Person
She is 18, bright, funny, and (most of the time) very aware of what’s going on around her. She has a great sense of humour and likes to connect with people, have a laugh, and not take life too seriously. She has epilepsy, autism (ASD), and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). At times, her symptoms can be unpredictable and quite debilitating, so she needs someone with her to help keep her safe and support her through these episodes. Full training and a clear support protocol will be provided, so you’ll feel confident in how to respond and support her.

- Helping her stay engaged and stimulated (without pressure)
- Adapting plans depending on how she is on the day
This is very much a “doing life alongside her” kind of role.

Support and training
You will be given guidance, training, and a clear protocol so you understand:
- How to support her during seizures or FND episodes
- How to respond calmly and safely
- How to support her day-to-day wellbeing
Ongoing support will always be available.

Two up to date Reference contacts are required one of which must be from a present or previous employer. In addition, a new PVG enhanced disclosure will be required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer paid from SDS funds). Probationary Period attached, 6 months to this post. During this period, either party can end the employment by giving the other one weeks’ notice.
