Overview

Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T) – Kilwinning area.

Hours: 6 hrs per week. Proposed shifts: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm. Days flexible to be discussed at interview. Rate of pay: £12.60 – £13.73 per hr (R.O.P).

Duties

  • Social Support: provide social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring the young man‘s safety at all times. He has no sense of danger or road safety; therefore supervision is required at all times and you must be physically fit and able to respond quickly as he can run off if distracted. Continuity and consistency are very important to him.
  • Support to access the local community including going to the gym and swimming pool (he cannot swim, but enjoys being in the water). Applicants must be comfortable assisting with these activities.
  • The family seeks applicants who are friendly, have a cheery personality and are easygoing. You must be calm and able to reassure and encourage in a positive way.
  • He is passionate about cars and watching sport, enjoys going to football games and visiting stadiums; it would be beneficial to have similar interests. Hours may occasionally be longer to support travel to stadiums and other activities.
  • He loves music and has an interest in theatre and costumes. It is hoped that over time his confidence will increase and he may attend Centre Stage in Kilmarnock.

Personal Care

Minimal assistance – prompting to get dressed properly after swimming, etc.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience of working with young adults with Autism is essential.
  • Preferable that applicants are drivers with a current driving licence, use of own car and business insurance. Wage rate incorporates travel allowance; mileage costs will be covered for work-related travel.
  • Successful applicants will undergo a PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and supply two references prior to appointment.
  • There is a six-month probationary period with one week’s notice within that time if the post does not work out.
