Job Purpose: Support a young lady with learning disabilities and sight impairment to socialise within her community. She enjoys swimming, bowling, outdoor activities, music and dancing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the person to engage in community life and activities as directed by her family.
- Support social activities such as swimming, ten-pin bowling, bus outings, and other interests.
- Provide companionship and a flexible approach to meet the person’s choices.
- Offer small personal care assistance when she is out.
- Work evenings and weekends when required, with plans arranged in advance.
- Support her in the home when needed.
- Help build community contacts and networks.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrable experience supporting people with learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of person-centred practice and empowerment.
- Good interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
- Organisational skills.
- Understanding of social inclusion and community engagement.
Experience & Personal Qualities:
- Lived experience of positively supporting someone, or similar peer experience.
- Ability to engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
- Experience of supporting people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Good sense of humour, down-to-earth, good listener.
- Flexibility and reliability.
- Interest or experience in community activities such as swimming, bowling, music, dancing.
Probationary Period: 6-month probationary period. Successful applicant must obtain a new or updated PVG disclosure and provide two up-to-date references before appointment.
Workplace Arrangements: Employee will be employed by a personal employer; payroll and employment support handled by a support organisation.
