The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that construction workshops are safe, well-resourced, and effectively organised to support high-quality learning and teaching. This includes preparing materials and equipment for practical classes, maintaining tools and machinery, and supporting both staff and students during workshop activities.

Applicants should have relevant industry experience within carpentry and joinery alongside a strong understanding of current health and safety practices within a workshop setting. You will have a trade qualification in carpentry and joinery, or a related construction discipline. You will also have sound knowledge of workshop health and safety, including safe systems of work, risk assessments, and COSHH regulations and experience in the use, maintenance, and safe storage of hand and power tools, machinery, and construction materials.

The preferred candidate will have an ability to prepare and set up workshop activities, ensuring all resources are available and fit for purpose and take a proactive, flexible approach towards teaching with the ability to work across multiple construction disciplines where required. You will have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage stock, order materials, and maintain workshop spaces to a high standard, and good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with lecturing staff and support students of varying abilities.

The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining a safe and professional workshop environment and be committed to supporting a positive learning experience for all students. An understanding of the needs of learners within a further education setting, including school pupils, pre-apprentices and employed apprentices would be advantageous.
