The Associate Consultant will provide specialist advice on R&D tax reliefs, covering technical, tax, and financial aspects, while managing and preparing detailed claim reports. The role also involves maintaining strong client relationships across a portfolio and supporting business development activities, including proposals and sales initiatives.

In particular, the Associate Consultant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Meeting with clients/targets at all stages of the sales and production process to discuss R&D reliefs, likely including both finance and senior technical contacts.
  • Interviewing in-house technical staff to gain an understanding of their activities for assessing eligibility for R&D reliefs.
  • Working with relevant client contacts to gather detailed financial, HR, and other data to facilitate the calculation of the relief, including designing methodologies for quantifying eligible R&D expenditure.
  • Preparing and reviewing structured reports in support of claims, including descriptions of identified R&D projects and justifications for their eligibility for relief.
  • Contacting and liaising directly with HM Revenue and Customs on behalf of clients to discuss and obtain agreement of claims, including attending meetings, making telephone calls, and drafting written correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Good academic foundation, including minimum Grade B in GCSE Maths and English, and at least 300 UCAS Tariff points.
  • Currently studying towards a degree in a relevant field (STEM, Computer Science, Economics, or Finance).
  • Excellent academic track record with a background in technical or financial disciplines.
  • Ability to engage effectively with researchers and developers, translating technical information clearly.

The successful candidate will be interviewed between the weeks commencing 11th May and 22nd May. The interview programme will run for approximately two months, starting from the end of July through to the beginning of September.
