We’re hiring on behalf of a leading provider of children’s residential care services, dedicated to supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), SEMH, and other complex needs. As a Deputy Manager, you’ll work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the home, providing stability, structure, and safety for the young people in your care. You’ll play a vital leadership role—supporting, mentoring, and developing the staff team to deliver high-quality care in line with Ofsted standards.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with all aspects of running the home, ensuring compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards.
- Lead shifts and oversee the daily operations of the staff team.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and guidance to Residential Childcare Workers and Team Leaders.
- Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Act as a role model—promoting independence, self-esteem, and resilience.
- Ensure care and placement plans, risk assessments, and reports are kept up to date.
- Manage and participate in the on-call rota and deputise for the Manager when required.
- Attend multi-agency meetings, audits, and reviews, contributing to ongoing service improvement.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion in all areas of practice.
Essential Criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Experience working in a children’s residential setting
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of Ofsted Quality Standards and relevant childcare legislation
- Ability to motivate a team, manage shifts, and ensure high standards of care
- Emotional resilience and a genuine passion for improving the lives of young people
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Criteria
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (Children and Young People) or willingness to work towards it
- Experience supporting young people with EBD, SEMH, or other complex needs
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and positive behaviour support
