As part of that mission, Axon Assistant is changing how public safety professionals interact with technology — delivering real-time translation, policy guidance, and AI-driven support across voice, mobile, and web platforms. As a Senior Software Engineer I , you\’ll play a central role in building the backend systems that bring Axon Assistant to life. You’ll work across real-time APIs, LLM-integrated services, and edge-to-cloud pipelines to help first responders get intelligent, actionable support exactly when they need it. You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and help us scale a product that will operate globally and in high-stakes environments. You’re someone who loves writing clean, scalable services — but who also thrives in ambiguity and is motivated by solving problems that don’t yet have clear answers. You care about system design, performance, and shipping features that support real people doing critical work. And you bring enough experience to know when to challenge, when to align, and how to build software that lasts. Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant backend services that support real-time AI experiences across Axon devices, mobile apps, and web interfaces. Collaborate with Applied AI teams to integrate large language models and related services into production systems — with a focus on latency, reliability, and observability. Contribute to and lead architecture discussions , including model orchestration, caching strategies, data storage patterns, and compute optimization. js, Python, or similar), review pull requests, and promote engineering best practices across the team. Improve how we operate: help shape sprint rituals, incident response, system monitoring, and long-term platform health. Bachelor\’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. ~6+ years of professional software development experience, ideally in backend or platform teams. ~ js , Python , Go , or similar languages. ~ Experience designing and operating cloud-native systems (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with a focus on scalability and resilience. ~ Familiarity with AI/ML systems , or demonstrable ability to quickly ramp up in highly technical, ambiguous domains. ~ Strong knowledge of REST APIs , distributed system design, and performance optimization. ~ Experience with both SQL and NoSQL data stores , caching layers, and observability tooling (e.g., Comfortable balancing short-term execution with long-term architectural thinking .
