AXON is a global healthcare communications agency that ignites change in healthcare. Through the power of life-changing communications, we contribute to medical advances that improve lives. At the core of every scientific innovation and advancement, there is a simple and compelling story to be told. We know how to tell that story, how to use the right tools to reach the right audiences at the right time, to provoke meaningful change. We specialise in advising clients on medical affairs, clinical studies, real-world evidence, marketing, advocacy, and communications, all underpinned by insights and creative strategy.

Creative Marketing at AXON is all about doing the right thing. We believe that’s about honest consultation with clients, so we act in their interests but not always according to their brief. Insightful consideration to unlock more value. And pushing creativity upstream to give it more clout. All this gives us confidence in what we deliver and builds confidence in us. Creative Marketing is the newest practice in AXON, so we have the rare opportunity to build and shape the practice just the way we want to. We’re looking for a like-minded Senior Designer who is set up for the challenge and genuinely interested in the experience of building our practice and with the support of their team, driving their client accounts and projects.

As a Senior Designer at AXON, you will work closely with the Senior Art Director and wider creative team to elevate every project from concept to final delivery. You will bring strategic thinking, strong visual judgement and exceptional design craft to the development of creative projects across branding, campaigns, digital communications, presentations, marketing materials and integrated healthcare communications. This role is suited to someone who is passionate about creativity, highly collaborative, and motivated by delivering beautifully crafted work that not only meets the brief but pushes creative thinking further. The successful candidate will be confident presenting ideas, mentoring junior team members and contributing to a culture of creative excellence. Candidates must demonstrate strong conceptual thinking, excellent typography and layout skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive within a fast-paced agency environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design and development of creative projects including campaign materials, branding, marketing collateral, digital assets and presentations.
  • Translate briefs into compelling, strategically considered design solutions that meet client objectives.
  • Present design concepts and proposals to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and refining work where necessary.
  • Deliver strong creative ideas and a consistently high level of craftsmanship across all design outputs.
  • Contribute fresh ideas and innovative thinking to the overall creative strategy and vision of the business.
  • Demonstrate excellent typographic, layout and visual communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Maintain professional standards of file management and workflow organisation.
  • Act as a design guardian for client brands, ensuring colour, typography and visual equities remain consistent across all deliverables.

Client Services

  • Build strong working relationships with client services, scientific/medical teams and wider stakeholders across the business.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and impactful creative solutions.
  • Participate confidently in creative discussions, workshops and internal reviews.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and solutions-focused approach to feedback and project challenges.
  • Communicate passionately and knowledgeably about creative work and the business challenges design can solve.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Deliver projects to agreed timelines and budgets while maintaining creative excellence.
  • Ensure all work progresses through the appropriate internal review and approval processes.
  • Coordinate effectively with external vendors and suppliers where required.
  • Accurately complete time recording and expenses in Maconomy using appropriate job codes.
  • Support the production and delivery of final assets across digital and print formats.

People Management & Team

  • Mentor and support junior designers, fostering confidence, collaboration and creative growth.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, supportive and ambitious creative culture.
  • Maintain curiosity for industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in design.
  • Take ownership of personal development and continuous learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for award-worthy work and creative innovation.

Essential Skills

  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent typography, layout and visual communication skills.
  • Strong experience across branding, campaign and digital design.
  • Ability to create and present well-structured design solutions.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrable portfolio showcasing high-quality professional and personal design work.
  • Illustration, 3D or additional creative software skills advantageous.
  • Previous healthcare or pharmaceutical agency experience beneficial but not essential.
