We are seeking experienced independent Psychotherapists to join Axon Neuro as an associate.
Axon Neuro empowers clients living with brain injuries and complex neurological conditions across England to achieve their personal goals and rebuild independence.
Through our Freelance Associate Programme, prospective clients and referring healthcare professionals can find and book you directly.
Working 1-to-1, associates execute delegated, non-regulated rehabilitation plans focused on practical living skills, physical mobility, cognitive strategies, and community re-integration.
Our associates represent a wide range of fields, including rehabilitation assistants, support workers, psychotherapists, creative art therapists, hydrotherapists, personal trainers, and driving instructors.
United by a shared commitment to empowering people rather than creating dependence, our associate network delivers tailored, person-centred support.
Our approach ensures that we match individuals with professionals based on shared goals.
Associates only accept clients they genuinely believe they can support effectively and make a meaningful impact with, ensuring clients choose associates who are truly engaged in working with them.
Joining the Axon Neuro Associate Programme offers the flexibility of freelance work combined with the satisfaction of making a lasting difference.
As an independent professional, you maintain full control over your practice and schedule while benefiting from our dedicated client-matching process.
Whether you are helping someone return to physical activity, regain driving skills, or build emotional resilience, your expertise will help clients discover new possibilities and achieve true independence.
Please note: We do not provide regulated healthcare services, which means there is no requirement for associates to offer personal care.
Instead, your focus remains entirely on enabling clients to overcome barriers, reconnect with hobbies, and develop confidence in everyday lives.
Requirements
- Relevant experience
- Knowledge and experience of risk assessments, identifying potential risks and understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Enhanced DBS certificate
- Professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance
- Appropriate business car insurance where you support clients using your own vehicle
- L2 Safeguarding Certificate for Adults and/or Children
Please note: Some clients will also be supported by their therapist.
Where appropriate, and where you are willing to do so, you may have the opportunity to work alongside the therapist, support their rehabilitation programme and share feedback on the client’s progress.
This will always be agreed on a case-by-case basis and within your experience and agreed scope of practice.
- Why join us
- Fair, transparent rates - clear and straightforward pricing.
- Choose how you work - decide your own hours, workload and coverage area.
- Have the infrastructure behind you - our portal, central support and operations team provide the tools and support you need to deliver your independent practice.
- Represent yourself, and be represented by us - build your professional presence through Axon while representing the wider organisation to clients and other professionals.
- Potential eligibility for a Blue Light Card - subject to eligibility.
Please note: This opportunity is designed for trusted and experienced professionals who are confident working independently.
It is particularly suited to those who already have their own established independent practice and would benefit from the infrastructure, systems and professional support of a wider service.

✨Tap into Local Networks and Communities
Freelancing in therapy and counselling means you'll need to build a solid local presence. Attend workshops, community events, or local counselling meet-ups to connect with potential clients and other professionals in your area. They might have referrals or even collaboration opportunities to help you get started!
✨Create a Public Portfolio of Your Work
Craft a portfolio that showcases your skills and the different therapeutic approaches you use. This could include case studies, testimonials from past clients (with privacy respected, of course), and any resources you’ve created. Having a strong online presence helps potential clients see what you’re about and builds credibility.
✨Join Professional Online Platforms
Freelance therapists thrive on platforms designed for mental health professionals. Sign up for directories like TherapyDen or Psychology Today where you can list your practice. This is a great way to gain visibility and connect with clients actively looking for someone with your qualifications.
✨Promote Your Services Through Social Media
Don’t underestimate the power of social media! Create accounts focused on mental health awareness and share insightful content or tips that demonstrate your expertise. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook can be great for establishing connections and letting people know you're available for freelance work, including promoting any workshops or events you may be hosting.
