Requirements

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering industrial automation and/or Operational Technology projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation principles, configuration and calibration.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus RTU & TCP, and OPC UA.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks, control systems and OT infrastructure.
  • Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting and maintaining industrial automation systems.
  • Understanding of OT cyber security and system resilience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office packages.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive, commercially aware, and able to demonstrate a genuine can-do attitude.
  • High level of integrity and autonomy, with the ability to build strong relationships across the wider business.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project concepts, specifications and technical solutions.
  • Design and implement automation, control and OT infrastructure.
  • Manage procurement, contractors, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines and resources.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance across OT and process control systems.
  • Work closely with IT, engineering, production, maintenance and other operational stakeholders.
  • Support operational reliability, business continuity and asset performance.
  • Ensure OT systems meet relevant cyber security and compliance requirements.
  • Support the integration, resilience and ongoing development of industrial control systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, digitalisation and technological development.
  • Troubleshoot complex automation, control and industrial networking issues.
  • Drive change and deliver initiatives designed to improve operational performance.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operational Technology (OT) Engineer to join our IT function, supporting multiple manufacturing sites across West Yorkshire.

Reporting to the Head of IT, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of significant projects and play a key role in strengthening the development, reliability and resilience of our operational technology infrastructure.
