The Company Axon Moore is partnering with a fast paced, entrepreneurial consumer business with a global footprint as they look to hire an ambitious and experienced Financial Controller to join the finance team. As the Financial Controller you will lead the UK finance and accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, timely month-end close, and compliance with UK statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements.

Salary: Β£80,000 – Β£85,000 + bonus + benefits

Location: London

The Role: As the Financial Controller you will lead all aspects of UK financial accounting and reporting, including month-end close, statutory reporting, compliance, controls, and audit coordination. Ensure accurate financial reporting under UK GAAP, oversee balance sheet management, cash flow, tax, intercompany, and transfer pricing activities, and strengthen financial controls and processes across the finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead UK month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, journals, accruals, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure financial reporting complies with accounting standards and internal requirements.
  • Review monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow results, explaining key variances.
  • Own statutory reporting, coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, Companies House, VAT, corporate tax, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support transfer pricing, intercompany accounting, and cross-border tax matters with the wider tax team.
  • Maintain documentation for audits, tax filings, and compliance reviews.
  • Strengthen financial controls across close, reconciliations, approvals, expenses, inventory, and intercompany activity.
  • Support development and implementation of the controls framework.
  • Drive process standardisation, automation, and documentation across finance.
  • Partner with finance and systems teams on ERP, reporting, and transformation initiatives.
  • Support cash forecasting, working capital analysis, and balance sheet management.
  • Monitor receivables, payables, inventory, accruals, and other key balance sheet accounts.
  • Partner with Operations and Commercial teams to improve visibility into inventory, costs, customer activity, and performance.
  • Support management reporting, variance analysis, and business commentary.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance team.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, deadlines, and accountability across finance.
  • Act as the primary finance contact for accounting, audit, reporting, and controls matters.
  • Build strong relationships with finance leadership, auditors, tax advisors, and key stakeholders.

Person Specification:

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Significant experience in financial controllership, accounting, audit, or finance leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, statutory reporting, VAT, and UK compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in an international business environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems; enterprise finance platform experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, month-end close, balance sheet management, and audit processes.
  • Experience within product-based, manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-led businesses preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise effectively, and drive accountability.
  • Strong process improvement mindset.
  • Collaborative style with the ability to work across geographies and functions.
