Our financial services client is looking for an experienced Senior SQL Server DBA to join a project focused on implementing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) using Extensible Key Management (EKM) across a large enterprise SQL Server estate. This is a hands‑on role requiring an experienced production DBA with strong SQL Server administration, high availability and database security experience. The position is inside IR35 and requires 2–3 days per week on the client’s premises in the City of London.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) using Extensible Key Management (EKM)
  • Configure and support SQL Server integration with Azure Key Vault/EKM providers
  • Assess the impact of encryption on existing databases and applications
  • Carry out performance analysis, testing and troubleshooting following TDE implementation
  • Support encrypted Always On Availability Groups and disaster recovery environments
  • Work closely with Infrastructure, Security, Development and Application Support teams throughout the implementation
  • Produce technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams

Qualifications

  • Extensive SQL Server DBA experience supporting production environments
  • Strong SQL Server 2016, 2019 and/or 2022 administration experience
  • Hands‑on implementation of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
  • Experience configuring or supporting Extensible Key Management (EKM)
  • Experience integrating SQL Server with Azure Key Vault
  • Always On Availability Groups, clustering, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery
  • SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Experience working within large enterprise or financial services environments

Desirable

  • SQL Server migrations and upgrades
  • PowerShell automation
  • Azure SQL and hybrid cloud environments
  • Experience with replication, log shipping or database mirroring
