About the Role
Hampshire County Council is looking for an experienced
Solicitor to join its Legal Services team on a temporary basis.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice, advocacy, and representation to the Council, its departments, committees, members, and client bodies on complex contentious and non-contentious matters.
You will manage a varied caseload of complex and higher-risk matters, providing high-quality legal advice, drafting legal documents, undertaking advocacy, and supporting clients to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on complex and high-risk matters.
- Manage your own caseload, including reviewing evidence, assessing risk, and advising clients on appropriate courses of action.
- Represent the Council at court and tribunals, undertaking advocacy where required.
- Draft legal documents including reports, agreements, court pleadings, witness statements, and consent orders.
- Conduct negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Liaise with clients, courts, counsel, experts, external agencies, and other legal professionals.
- Undertake legal research and provide clear, practical advice.
- Support and mentor junior members of the legal team where required.
Requirements
- Qualified
Solicitor or Barrister .
- Recent experience providing legal advice on complex cases.
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
- Good advocacy and representation skills.
- Experience managing a caseload independently.
- Strong communication and client care skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and make sound legal decisions.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a local authority legal services environment.
- Experience dealing with complex contentious and non-contentious matters.
- Experience advising public sector clients.
