About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced English Lecturer to join a college based in BR2 8HE, delivering GCSE English to learners aged 16–18. This is a temporary ongoing opportunity to join a supportive teaching team, delivering engaging lessons that help students achieve their full potential while preparing them for further education or employment. You will plan and deliver high-quality lessons, assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback, and create an inclusive learning environment that supports student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality GCSE English lessons to learners aged 16–18
  • Plan, prepare and assess engaging lessons in line with the curriculum
  • Monitor learner progress and provide timely feedback
  • Support students to achieve their academic goals
  • Maintain accurate learner records and attendance
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver outstanding teaching and learning

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK with no restrictions on working hours
  • PGCE, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Minimum 2 years' post-qualification teaching experience within a UK secondary school, further education college, sixth form, academy, or alternative provision
  • Experience teaching GCSE English
  • Relevant English qualification
  • Strong understanding of the GCSE English curriculum
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills

Desirable

  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English (Entry Level 3 and above)
  • Experience supporting learners with varying abilities and learning needs

Please Note: Private tuition or home tutoring alone will not be considered sufficient experience. ESOL teaching experience alone is not equivalent to GCSE English teaching experience. Candidates must be able to travel reliably to the college in BR2 8HE.
