The Aviation team is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team and support the delivery of the business plan focusing through effective underwriting and delegated authority management. The focus will be on international territories including but not limited to USA, Canada, Middle East and Latam.

The role includes underwriting such classes of business as outlined in the Underwriting Authority to ensure performance meets financial and operational metrics, while aligning with audit, conduct risk, and compliance requirements. Your work will help create good customer outcomes across the insurance lifecycle and contribute to AXIS’s reputation for excellence and integrity.

What will you do in this role?

  • Underwrite new and renewal business within agreed authority and support referral underwriting.
  • Establish and maintain beneficial working relationships with brokers, clients and reinsurers to develop the business, and negotiate both new and renewal contracts.
  • Collaborate with other offices, product lines and stakeholders to develop the global aviation portfolio and deliver results in line with financial plans.
  • Utilise and develop benchmarking tools and models to support business pricing requirements.
  • Run and review reports to monitor portfolio performance against business plan metrics.
  • Act as focal point for the provision of technical information in respect of the classes underwritten.
  • Where required, take responsibility for projects such as product development, rating model improvements or similar, managing the internal and external interfaces and delivering the project.
  • Collaborate with Conduct Risk and Compliance teams to ensure underwriting standards are met.
  • Communicate underwriting, audit, and conduct risk issues to the Unit Head or Deputy.
  • Monitor and report emerging risks or control failures using formal channels.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and maintenance of underwriting system records.
  • Coordinate any delegated authority processes and support internal/external audits.
  • Contribute to a culture that prioritizes fair treatment of customers and continuous improvement.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • Recognised market professional with significant Aviation Insurance Experience.
  • Broad relationships across the aviation market with brokers/clients.
  • Good knowledge of aviation policy forms.
  • Familiarity with FCA, PRA, and Lloyd’s compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and underwriting systems (Examples being PowerBI, Riskwrite, IRIS, Swordfish, Desktop etc).
  • Ability to analyse data and present insights clearly and appropriately.
  • Influencing, negotiating, listening, and questioning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing time effectively.

  • At least 7 years of Aviation Insurance Experience.
  • Commercial mindset and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build trust and communicate effectively across stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and written communication skills.
  • Focus on profitability and results.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities and support colleagues.
  • ACII qualified or significant progress to completion.

Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to:

  • Be in the office 3 days per week.
  • Attend broker meetings and events as required.
  • Travel internationally.
