Overview
This is the Underwriting Lead - AXIS Capacity Solutions role at AXIS Capital. AXIS is a trusted global provider of specialty lines insurance and reinsurance with a focus on outstanding client service, intelligent risk taking and strong risk-adjusted returns.
AXIS is building a Capacity Solutions business unit focussed on multi-line portfolio business written with brokers and MGAs. The selected candidate will lead underwriting for this unit, manage underwriting referrals, and work with a virtual AXIS team across CUO Office, Operations and Distribution.
What you will do
- Lead and coordinate the underwriting appraisal for new and renewal business.
- Act as the technical underwriting lead for the business unit and maintain portfolio underwriting standards on each deal.
- liaise with product-specific underwriting teams during development and appraisal of opportunities and referrals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for underwriting referrals from distribution and underwriting partners.
- Support prospecting for new multi-line portfolio opportunities with Brokers and MGAs.
- Collaborate with the CUO office to determine optimal portfolio shape within the Group risk appetite and strive for diversification.
- Develop portfolio monitoring KPIs with support from functional teams.
- Manage the pipeline of new opportunities and provide ad-hoc reporting as required.
- Work with all functions to ensure an efficient operating model for multi-line portfolio business.
- Maintain underwriting governance standards, including guidelines, internal referrals and portfolio audits.

About you / Qualifications
What you need to have:
- At least 10 years of experience in underwriting in commercial lines (re)insurance.
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal/communication skills and strong marketing abilities.
- Self-initiative and high motivation; proactive issue resolution.
- CII qualifications or working towards them.
- Experience building strong relationships with colleagues and leadership and ability to influence outcomes.
- Experience in deal structuring and portfolio assessment.
- Experience with best-practice operating models, governance and business unit performance frameworks.

Role factors
In this role, you will typically be in the office 3 days per week with limited travel.
