Core Responsibilities:

  • Advising on applicable codes, standards and guidance, ADB Volume, BS9999, BS9991, PD 7974, PAS9980, HTM guidance and superseded/withdrawn documents for the purposes of retrospective fire strategies;
  • Develop fire engineering justifications and alternative solutions to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations 2010;
  • Author fire strategy reports for a range of different building types including residential and commercial properties and mixed-use developments;
  • Conduct Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEWs) and provide remediation strategies;
  • Act as a checker on reports as part of a three-stage internal review process;
  • Provide support to Junior Fire Engineers and encourage their development;
  • Assigned as a buddy to a graduate fire engineer and check in monthly on progress;
  • Attend site visits if required for monitoring in RIBA Stage 5;
  • Knowledge of CFD analysis (using Pyrosim/CFAST/FDS);
  • Knowledge of evacuation modelling (Pathfinder/Simulex);
  • Knowledge of Structural Fire Engineering;
  • Knowledge of fire engineering design principles in PD 7974/other handbooks such as the SPFE handbook, CIBSE Guide E etc;
  • Project Management Experience – manage projects from RIBA Stages 1-5, act as primary point of contact for clients on projects ranging from £1 Million to £20 Million;
  • Attend client design team meetings in person or remotely when possible;
  • Ensure consistency in technical quality and communication with clients;
  • Attend client events and contribute to business development;
  • Maintain a CPD log with an aim to become a member of a desired institution or become chartered (e.g., IFE, CIBSE, SPFE etc.).

Qualifications / Experience:

  • BEng/MEng in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline;
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with IFE, IMechE, or equivalent institution, or working towards chartership;
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) or equivalent professional body (desirable);
  • 4‑6 years industry experience in Fire Engineering.

Work Location:
