Manufacturing/AI Startup | London (on-site)
Compensation: Up to £150k + equity package
About
This is a VC-backed startup rebuilding manufacturing from first principles. The mission is simple: re-industrialise the West. Today’s supply chains are slow, fragile, and opaque. This team is building a system where production is local, fast, and software-driven. They’re not adding software to legacy factories. They’re rebuilding the entire stack – treating manufacturing like a distributed system, not a series of manual processes. The team is ~15, heavily engineering-led. You’ll work directly with the shop floor – code shipped in the morning can control machines the same day.
What you'll do
- Build a real-time orchestration system that plans and routes production across factories
- Design deterministic systems that operators can understand and trust
- Integrate AI agents to automate decisions like order splitting, routing, and material planning
- Develop core products from scratch – scheduling, inventory, and production systems
- Improve routing and planning through data, feedback loops, and model iteration
- Work directly with operators to turn real-world problems into shipped product
What you'll need
- 2–10 years of experience building and shipping production systems
- Strong academic background in a STEM discipline
- Generalist across backend, infrastructure, and data systems
- Strong coding fundamentals (TypeScript stack, but not required)
- Experience running systems in production (cloud, reliability, debugging)
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, early-stage environments
- Able to move quickly and pick up unfamiliar problems fast
- Strong problem-solving – can turn messy real-world constraints into working systems
- Evidence of working through genuinely hard problems
This is closer to building a distributed systems platform for factories than traditional manufacturing software.
