We are working in partnership with a primary school in Bath to recruit an Autism Behaviour Support Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with autism in a specialist resource setting. These children can be physically challenging as they often struggle to regulate or express their emotions.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing consistent 1:1 support to pupils who may exhibit high anxiety or physical expressions of distress.
- Helping children to develop emotional regulation skills using calm, patient engagement.
- Building trusting, respectful relationships so pupils feel understood and safe.
- Working alongside a dedicated specialist teaching team to tailor therapeutic, structured approaches in lessons and throughout the school day.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re not focused on formal experience. Instead, we want someone with the right personality: compassion, emotional resilience, calm under pressure, and a genuine desire to support children with autism whose behavioural challenges stem from communication difficulty. If you’ve volunteered, coached, or worked with vulnerable or distressed children, even without autism-specific training, you may be exactly the right person.
Why this role matters:
The school’s graded Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development are crucial for the success of the pupils.
