Axcis Education is recruiting for a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Skelmersdale on a long-term, full-time basis from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them achieve positive outcomes in education. The school supports primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs. Many pupils also have additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and learning difficulties.
Due to the nature of the role, experience supporting children with challenging behaviour and using behaviour management or de-escalation strategies is highly desirable. This welcoming specialist school has around 50 pupils on roll, creating a supportive and close-knit environment. Class sizes are small, typically between 6 and 12 pupils, allowing staff to provide tailored support and build positive relationships with every child.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to support pupils both in the classroom and on a one-to-one basis where required. You will help create a safe, structured learning environment while encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence. Strong relationship-building skills, resilience and consistency are key to success in this role. Training in de-escalation techniques such as Team Teach would be an advantage but is not essential, as relevant experience and a willingness to learn are equally valued.
This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 4:00pm. The role begins in September 2026 and offers an excellent opportunity for a permanent position with the school for the right candidate.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Experience working with children or vulnerable adults with SEND or SEMH needs.
- Knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding in education.
- Confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
- A resilient, patient and positive approach.
- Full-time availability and a strong work ethic.
Pay starts from £14.25 per hour. If you are looking for a rewarding Behaviour Support Assistant job in Skelmersdale and have experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, autism or ADHD, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to join a supportive specialist school where you can make a lasting difference to the lives of young people.
