Job Description
Are you passionate about supporting pupils with SEND and helping them feel confident, included and supported throughout their school day? A warm and welcoming specialist school in Wallington is looking for caring and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join their supportive team. The school works with pupils with a range of additional needs, including medical needs, Down’s syndrome, ASD and complex learning needs. This is a great opportunity for experienced SEND professionals, Teaching Assistants, carers and parents of children with SEND who can bring patience, compassion and valuable personal experience to the role. The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Responsibilities
- Support pupils with ASD, Down’s syndrome, medical needs and complex SEND
- Provide one-to-one and small group support where required
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Support communication, social development and independence
- Assist with personal care and medical needs where required
- Support pupils with their individual learning activities
- Encourage confidence, engagement and participation
- Help pupils develop their communication, social and life skills
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff
- Help create a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment
Ideal Candidate
- Caring, patient and compassionate
- Experienced in supporting pupils with SEND, ideally within a school or specialist setting
- Understanding of ASD, Down’s syndrome and complex needs
- Comfortable supporting pupils with personal care and medical requirements
- Able to adapt their approach to meet individual needs
- A confident communicator and positive team player
- Reliable, flexible and proactive
- Keen to develop their SEND experience
Personal experience as a parent, carer or family member of someone with SEND is also welcomed and valued. INDLON
