Are you a Music graduate looking for a rewarding career where creativity, empathy and communication can make a genuine difference? Axcis Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5–18 with autism, learning disabilities and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist school in South Gloucestershire.

Why is this opportunity ideal for Music graduates?

Music is a powerful way to connect with people. Your understanding of rhythm, listening, expression and creativity can help children communicate, regulate their emotions and build confidence. For pupils who find verbal communication challenging, music can offer an alternative way to express themselves, develop relationships and engage with learning. Your creativity and patience could make a lasting difference.

Discover a unique learning environment

This specialist setting provides personalised education for autistic pupils, with a curriculum designed around individual abilities and developmental stages rather than simply age. Its latest Ofsted inspection in June 2025 awarded the school Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Inspectors highlighted its warm relationships, calm and friendly environment, therapeutic support and carefully designed spaces that help pupils develop emotional regulation. They also praised its individualised approach to SEND and the extensive opportunities for wider personal development.

What makes a great Teaching Assistant?

Previous school experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, compassionate and emotionally resilient.
  • Creative, enthusiastic and approachable.
  • Adaptable and confident building relationships.
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Motivated by helping others achieve their potential.

Your personality, values and willingness to make a difference matter more than experience.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.

Axcis is an equal opportunities employer and as such we do not discriminate based on age, gender, disability, race or any other equal opportunities criteria.

The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such, you will be required to provide an up to date DBS, or be prepared to allow Axcis to process one on your behalf, in addition to other mandatory compliance checks in line with the DfE guidelines (for details please see our website).

If the position you are applying for involves working with children or vulnerable adults, this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.

You must be suitably qualified for the position advertised and be prepared to attend a face to face interview with Axcis to demonstrate your suitability for this role.

Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.
