Axcis Education is recruiting for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Wigan. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs) and challenging behaviour, helping them engage positively in education and achieve their potential.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who need additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and classroom engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Support pupils displaying challenging behaviour
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions
  • Encourage participation and engagement in learning activities
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENCO, and wider school staff
  • Promote a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, or behavioural needs
  • Experience in schools, care settings, youth work, residential support, or similar environments
  • A calm, resilient, and patient approach
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • The ability to remain consistent, empathetic, and professional
