Could you be the person who makes a real difference to a child’s school experience? Do you have the patience, compassion and dedication to provide individualised support and help a child overcome barriers to learning? We are working in partnership with a highly regarded mainstream primary school in Charmouth to recruit a caring and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding full-time role involves providing consistent, tailored support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs, helping them to feel safe, confident and able to engage positively in school life. This is more than simply supporting learning. It is an opportunity to build a strong, trusting relationship with a child, understand their individual needs and help them develop their confidence, independence and ability to access the curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil with SEN, helping them access learning and participate fully in school life
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and provide consistent emotional and practical support
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to follow and adapt individual support strategies
  • Help create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where the pupil feels safe and supported
  • Support emotional regulation, communication, social development and positive behaviour
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the pupil’s individual needs and abilities
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions
  • Monitor progress and celebrate achievements, however small
  • Support the pupil during lessons, transitions, break times and other aspects of the school day
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment

What we are looking for

  • Has experience supporting children, ideally within a school, SEN or specialist setting
  • Has a strong understanding of SEN and the individual needs of children who require additional support
  • Is patient, empathetic, resilient and consistent in their approach
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with children
  • Is confident supporting a child on a 1:1 basis while also working effectively as part of a wider school team
  • Communicates well with teachers, parents and other professionals
  • Is committed to helping children develop their confidence, independence and potential
  • Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable but not essential)

Pay: £92 – £97 per day Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday Start date: ASAP
