Are you looking for a rewarding role supporting children and young people with additional needs? We’re seeking a warm, patient and reliable full‑time SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist hub attached to a local secondary school near Taunton. You’ll support with SEMH needs, autism and learning disabilities, helping them access tailored provision while also working within mainstream lessons as appropriate.
This specialist hub offers tailored support for learners with EHCPs within a mainstream school setting. Pupils have personalised timetables and support plans designed to help them develop strategies, confidence and skills to access both specialist and mainstream learning. The hub works closely with teachers to adapt lessons and classroom environments to meet individual needs and support inclusion. The school is rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection. Inspectors noted good quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership — and highlighted that pupils with SEND receive the support they need to follow the curriculum successfully.
Responsibilities
- Full‑time: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday
- Support pupils in specialist provision and in mainstream lessons
- Help pupils feel confident, safe and included, working with teachers and support staff to deliver personalised support and adapt activities
- Build positive relationships and offer reassurance at the heart of this role
Qualifications & Experience
- Kind, patient, calm and genuinely enjoys working with children and young people
- Empathy, flexibility and a positive attitude — personal qualities matter more than prior experience
- Works well as part of a team and builds trust with pupils and colleagues
- Some experience with young people — perhaps as a graduate, youth worker, sports coach, support worker or TA — but motivation and values to support vulnerable learners are more important
- Wants to gain valuable experience in a specialist school setting — excellent preparation for careers in teaching, youth work, mental health or education support
