We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive curriculum for students with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Working closely with class teachers and senior staff, you will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils, reinforcing coping strategies and classroom routines.
- Implement personalised behaviour-management plans and de-escalation techniques.
- Assist in preparing and adapting learning resources to meet individual needs.
- Record observations of pupil progress and contribute to SEMH reviews and IEP updates.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and external agencies.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and promote the well-being of every child.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in Education, Childcare, or Psychology.
- Experience supporting children with SEMH challenges, preferably within a mainstream school setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Good organisational abilities and proficiency with basic ICT tools.
- DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable
- Knowledge of CBT-based interventions and trauma-informed practice.
- First-Aid certification.
