Teaching Assistant β Autism Support | Full-Time SEND Role
Axcis Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school. This opportunity is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a passion for helping young people. The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with pupils with autism, supporting their communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and engagement in learning. This role would suit candidates from education, care, support work, psychology, youth work, or similar backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Support pupils with communication, interaction, and social development.
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation and managing sensory needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and families to ensure consistent support.
- Build positive relationships that help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.
- Support pupils during classroom activities, breaktimes, and transitions between lessons.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Understands the challenges associated with autism, including sensory processing differences, communication needs, and emotional regulation.
- Has experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school, care, residential, or community setting.
- Is patient, empathetic, calm, and resilient.
- Can build trusting relationships and provide consistent support.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Is passionate about supporting children with autism to achieve their full potential.
