Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEND School & College (Autism Specialist)

Location: St Helens

Start Date: Immediate Starts Available

Contract Type: Full-Time

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a specialist SEND school and college in the St Helens area, supporting students aged 4 to 19 with autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs. This setting offers a truly inclusive and enriching experience — both for students and staff. Whether you\\\’re supporting younger pupils in their early learning journey or helping older students build independence and life skills, this is a role where you’ll see the impact of your work every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students aged 4–19 in both academic learning and real-life skill development
  • Adapt resources and learning activities to meet individual needs and EHCP goals
  • Assist students with autism in building communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills
  • Get involved in hands-on learning, including vocational tasks like the café or garden centre
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to monitor progress and contribute to student development
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all learners

What Were Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with autism and/or complex needs (school, college, care or youth settings welcome)
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning
  • Enthusiasm for supporting both early years and post-16 learners
  • A proactive attitude with the confidence to work 1:1 or in small groups
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for helping children and young people thrive
