We are looking for a caring and committed Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Taunton from September. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a school that places a strong emphasis on high standards, high expectations, and knowing students as individuals. The school has a calm and focused atmosphere, with positive relationships between staff and students helping to create a supportive environment where young people can thrive.
The Role:
Working alongside teachers and the wider SEND team, you will provide support to students who may experience barriers to learning. The role will involve helping pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence and independence, and engage positively with school life. You may work with a range of students across the school, providing in-class support, 1:1 assistance, and small-group interventions depending on individual needs. The school's SEND provision includes targeted interventions and personalised support, with a focus on helping students develop both academically and personally.
Your Responsibilities:
- Support students to access learning and participate fully in lessons
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Help pupils develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement
- Build strong and trusting relationships with students
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and pastoral colleagues
- Help create an inclusive and positive learning environment
We're Looking for Someone Who:
- Is patient, caring, and approachable
- Has experience working with children or young people
- Can build positive relationships with students quickly
- Is calm, adaptable, and able to respond to individual needs
- Has a genuine passion for helping young people succeed
Experience supporting children with SEND, either professionally or personally, would be highly beneficial, although we are also keen to hear from candidates with backgrounds in care, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or other roles supporting young people.
Why Apply?
- Join a supportive and inclusive secondary school community
- Work alongside an experienced SEND and pastoral team
- Gain valuable experience supporting a wide range of additional needs
- Develop skills in learning support, behaviour, and student wellbeing
- Make a genuine difference to young people's confidence and progress
- Excellent experience for aspiring teachers, psychologists, youth workers, or SEND professionals
The school was rated Good by Ofsted in its March 2023 inspection, with inspectors highlighting the calm and focused atmosphere, warm relationships between pupils and staff, ambitious curriculum, and strong culture of safeguarding. If you're passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
