SEND Teaching Assistants – Bury School
Type: Specialist Primary School
Start Date: ASAP, subject to compliance checks
Contract: Flexible
Location: Bury, Greater Manchester
Pay Rate: £95 + per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with physical needs, including moving and handling, hoisting, and mobility assistance.
- Delivering 1:1 and small group support following personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.
- Using communication tools such as PECs, Makaton, and visual timetables (experience desirable but not essential).
- Assisting the class teacher in creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment.
- Monitoring, recording, and reporting on pupils’ progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
- Supporting pupils in sensory rooms, therapy sessions, and outdoor learning.
- Building strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Helping implement behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Supporting pupils during break and lunch duties.
- Ensuring safeguarding, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience supporting children or adults with SEND, personal care, or complex needs.
- A caring, patient, and resilient nature.
- Confidence with personal care procedures (or willingness to learn).
- A proactive approach and ability to work within a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
