Axcis Education is looking for dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to join our growing team and support pupils in mainstream secondary schools across Stockport and Tameside. Pay Rate: £90.00 – £110.00 per day (dependent on experience/qualification)
Role: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant
Contract: Flexible – Full-time, Part-time, Day-to-Day, or Long-term positions available
What you’ll be doing:
- In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), you will support SEMH needs in pupils across mainstream settings.
- Use evidence-based resources such as the Boxall Profile or Zones of Regulation.
- Help create and review Behaviour Support Plans.
- Support emotional regulation and develop pupils’ social skills.
- Use strategies to de-escalate and manage challenging behaviour.
- Work closely with teachers, SENDCos and external agencies.
- Create a safe, supportive, and structured environment for pupils to thrive.
- Track pupil progress and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
About you:
- Have at least 2 years’ experience supporting children with SEMH needs or behaviour that challenges.
- Understand trauma-informed approaches (ACEs) and emotional regulation strategies.
- Have a calm, consistent, and compassionate approach.
- Can build strong relationships and act as a positive role model.
- Have a background in education, youth work, mental health, or social care (preferred but not essential).
Placement and opportunities:
You will be placed in inclusive and supportive mainstream secondary schools, with occasional opportunities to work in alternative provisions or specialist SEMH settings.
