Axcis are partnering with a growing inclusive primary academy in Havering to find a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs and contribute to a school community that values confidence, independence and positive learning.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant you will support pupils within the classroom, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis. You will help children engage with learning, follow routines, manage transitions and develop confidence in both academic and social situations.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEND across the primary phase.
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to help children access classroom learning.
- Use visual supports, structured routines and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Support pupils with communication, attention, confidence and emotional regulation.
- Help children during transitions, group work and unstructured parts of the school day.
- Assist the class teacher with adapted resources and differentiated activities.
- Encourage independence, positive behaviour and social interaction.
- Work closely with the SENCO and teaching team to follow individual support plans.
Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting children with SEND or additional needs.
- Experience with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or SEMH would be beneficial.
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to build confidence and positive relationships with pupils quickly.
- Good classroom awareness and willingness to use initiative.
- Reliability, consistency and a genuine interest in inclusive education.
- Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September.
