Axcis are partnering with a growing inclusive primary academy in Havering to find a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs and contribute to a school community that values confidence, independence and positive learning.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant you will support pupils within the classroom, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis. You will help children engage with learning, follow routines, manage transitions and develop confidence in both academic and social situations.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND across the primary phase.
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to help children access classroom learning.
  • Use visual supports, structured routines and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Support pupils with communication, attention, confidence and emotional regulation.
  • Help children during transitions, group work and unstructured parts of the school day.
  • Assist the class teacher with adapted resources and differentiated activities.
  • Encourage independence, positive behaviour and social interaction.
  • Work closely with the SENCO and teaching team to follow individual support plans.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND or additional needs.
  • Experience with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or SEMH would be beneficial.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to build confidence and positive relationships with pupils quickly.
  • Good classroom awareness and willingness to use initiative.
  • Reliability, consistency and a genuine interest in inclusive education.
  • Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September.
