We are working with a well-regarded mainstream primary school in Sherborne that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is based in Key Stage 1 and focuses on providing one-to-one support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs. You will help pupils feel secure, build trust and develop the confidence they need to succeed — academically and emotionally — within a nurturing, inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt learning and support plans to meet individual needs
  • Create a calm, safe and nurturing environment that promotes engagement and emotional wellbeing
  • Use sensitive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support regulation and learning
  • Encourage positive relationships, social interaction and participation in school life
  • Track progress and celebrate achievements, recognising every step forward
  • Support the preparation of personalised learning resources
  • Take part in training and professional development, particularly around trauma-informed practice

About you

  • Has experience working with children, ideally within education or SEND settings
  • Is patient, empathetic and resilient, with a genuine commitment to children’s wellbeing
  • Communicates confidently and builds strong, trusting relationships
  • Works well independently while being a positive team player
  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • While not essential, a driving licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial due to the school’s location
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential

Pay: £89 – £95 per day
