Overview

We are seeking an experienced, dedicated, and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism in a friendly primary school in EN5. The pupil requires a consistent, nurturing adult who can build a strong positive relationship whilst maintaining clear boundaries. The successful candidate will have experience supporting children with ASD and managing challenging behaviour using a calm, proactive, and positive approach. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed SEND professional who is passionate about making a real difference to a child's educational and social development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil's academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Implement strategies to encourage engagement, independence, and positive behaviour.
  • Manage challenging behaviour effectively using agreed behaviour support plans.
  • Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO, parents, and external professionals.
  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and planning meetings.

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role.
  • Proven experience supporting pupils with ASD within a primary school setting.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour confidently and appropriately.
  • Nurturing, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • The ability to be firm but fair, maintaining high expectations and clear boundaries.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
