Do you have a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Are you confident in managing challenging behaviour and helping students build positive, lasting change? We’re looking for a resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our mainstream secondary school in Brent, supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll work closely with students who need additional emotional and behavioural support to succeed in school. From delivering 1:1 and small group interventions to helping manage classroom dynamics, you’ll play a crucial part in promoting a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment. You’ll collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support strategies and guide students toward positive choices—both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour (KS3 & KS4)
- Help students develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Support the delivery of behaviour management plans and use de-escalation techniques
- Build strong, trusting relationships that promote student engagement and self-confidence
- Encourage both academic progress and positive social interaction
- Work closely with the wider school team to create a nurturing and consistent environment
About You
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges (in schools or similar settings)
- Confident in using behaviour management strategies and staying calm under pressure
- Empathetic, patient, and proactive in your approach
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation techniques (desirable)
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., TA Level 2/3, Team Teach, or SEMH training) are a bonus—but not essential
