We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support a well‑established specialist school in Woodley on a flexible supply basis. The role is based in Woodley, working Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, with a daily rate of £92.63. You will work with pupils aged 4 to 17 who have moderate to severe learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils academically and personally, helping them access learning opportunities, build confidence and develop important life skills within a structured, nurturing environment.
  • Provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage positively in their learning and make meaningful progress.
  • Assist with classroom activities, behaviour management and emotional regulation, encouraging independence, participation and self‑confidence.
  • Build positive and consistent relationships with pupils, helping create an environment where they feel supported, understood and motivated to achieve their potential.
  • Adapt to different classes, age groups and areas of need, depending on the school's requirements each day.
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide effective support.

Qualifications

  • Experience in SEND or specialist school settings, or transferable skills gained through care work, residential support, social work, youth work or similar roles supporting vulnerable children or young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to quickly build rapport with pupils and staff.
  • Patient, resilient and proactive, with a calm and consistent approach to supporting behaviour and managing challenging situations.
  • Willingness and comfort to provide personal care where required.
  • Ability to adapt to new environments, establish clear expectations and act as a positive role model.
