Location: Plymouth

Salary: £14.25–£15.00 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a well‑resourced special school in Plymouth, supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). This challenging yet highly rewarding role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive difference in young people’s lives with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with teaching staff to support students in the classroom and throughout the school day.
  • Help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, build independence, and achieve their individual goals.
  • Provide high‑quality support for every student in a fast‑paced, busy, and engaging environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or vulnerable adults is essential.
  • A patient, resilient and caring approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine interest in supporting individuals with additional needs.

Desirable Skills

  • Makaton
  • PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
  • BSL (British Sign Language)
