We are seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Down syndrome in a welcoming and inclusive school in Greater Manchester.

Day Rate: £105+ per day dependent on experience and qualifications

Location: Manchester

Contract Type: Full Time / Part Time / Long Term / Short Term / Flexible Hours: School Hours

Start Date: ASAP – After Easter

This role focuses on removing barriers to learning, participation and social inclusion, ensuring the pupil can fully access the curriculum and school environment alongside their peers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teaching staff and the SENCO to implement strategies aligned with the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), following the principles of the SEND Code of Practice.

About the Role: As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support the pupil by adapting learning approaches, promoting independence and helping create an inclusive learning environment where every learner can thrive. You will focus on strengths‑based support, enabling the pupil to participate confidently in learning, social activities and wider school life. The role involves working closely with teachers and specialists to ensure reasonable adjustments and inclusive strategies are implemented effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to enable a pupil with Down syndrome to access learning and school activities.
  • Help remove barriers to participation within the classroom and wider school environment.
  • Implement strategies outlined within the pupil’s EHCP and SEND support plans.
  • Adapt classroom activities and learning materials to support inclusive participation.
  • Support the pupil’s communication, social interaction and independence.
  • Encourage confidence, self‑advocacy and positive peer relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals such as speech and language therapists.
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive classroom culture.

  • Are committed to promoting independence and inclusion.
  • Experience working within mainstream schools, SEND schools, alternative provision or specialist units is highly desirable.
