About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and challenging behaviour at our primary school in Islington. This is a vital role, providing 1:1 support to help the student access the curriculum, develop communication skills, and manage behaviour in a positive and structured way. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting pupils with DLD and/or challenging behaviour and be confident using strategies to promote engagement, communication, and social development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to the Year 2 pupil, tailoring strategies to their DLD and behavioural needs.
- Support the implementation of speech, language, and communication strategies.
- Assist with behaviour management, using positive and consistent approaches.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement the pupil’s individual learning plan.
- Promote independence, confidence, and social skills in the classroom.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teaching team.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with pupils with DLD, speech and language needs, or SEND.
- Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
- Knowledge of PECS, AAC, or other communication tools.
- Experience working in a primary school SEND setting.
- Relevant SEND or TA qualifications.
