Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND provision within a well‑established mainstream college in Merton. This provision supports young adults aged 16–25 with moderate to severe learning disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Condition and other complex support needs. It offers a safe, structured, and nurturing environment focused on developing independence, confidence and essential life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support learners through highly individualised programmes.
  • Work one‑to‑one and in small groups with students.
  • Assist with academic learning, personal care routines and break times.
  • Support learners during short walks, travel training or community‑based activities.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff and specialists to promote a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Curriculum & Focus Areas

  • Prepare learners for adulthood outcomes, including independence, employability, health and community participation.
  • Support personal, social and communication development.
  • Teach functional life skills such as cooking, travel training and self‑care.
  • Provide work experience and community‑based learning opportunities.

Facilities & Support

The provision offers dedicated learning spaces, common areas, quiet rooms and practical facilities including kitchens, laundry areas and an outdoor garden. Learners are supported by a specialist multidisciplinary team with an emphasis on consistency, structure and person‑centred practice.

Working Hours

Flexible options available:

  • 4 days per week: Tuesday to Friday
  • Or 2 days per week: Tuesday & Thursday

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
