Axcis Education is working in partnership with a highly supportive secondary school in Barnet to recruit a Behaviour Mentor to start immediately. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need additional behavioural support. The school has a strong pastoral team and is committed to inclusive and restorative practices. This role is ideal for someone who is confident, resilient and passionate about supporting pupils to reach their potential—both emotionally and academically.

Key Information:

  • Position: Behaviour Mentor
  • Location: Secondary school in Barnet (easily accessible by public transport)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Working Pattern: Full-time, Monday to Friday

About the Role:

You will work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4 who present with behavioural challenges, supporting them to regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and build self-confidence. This role will involve:

  • One-to-one mentoring and small group work
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH, ADHD, or Autism
  • Collaborating with SENCOs, class teachers and pastoral staff
  • De-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with young people in a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant or Youth Work role
  • Understanding of behavioural strategies and a restorative approach
  • Team Teach or similar de-escalation/restraint training (desirable, but training can be provided)
  • A calm, nurturing and consistent approach to supporting students
  • A genuine desire to support secondary-age pupils with additional needs
