We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our inclusive mainstream primary school from September. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a specialist KS1 provision, supporting children (primarily Year 2) with Autism and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

About the Role

  • You will be the lead adult within a specialist hub classroom, delivering a tailored, semi-formal curriculum designed to support pupils with additional needs.
  • Working closely with the Assistant Headteacher/SENCo, you will play a key leadership role in shaping learning experiences that enable every child to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small class of KS1 pupils within a specialist provision.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons using a multi-sensory, semi-formal approach.
  • Implement learning through structured carousel activities.
  • Use TEACCH principles to support routine, independence and engagement.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Equals curriculum.
  • Create and adapt classroom resources tailored to individual needs.
  • Support pupils’ integration into mainstream classrooms, assemblies, and wider school life.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and school staff, guiding and supporting others where needed.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching accordingly.

Ideal Candidate

  • HLTA status (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with children with ASC and/or SLCN.
  • Confidence in leading a classroom or readiness to develop leadership skills.
  • A strong understanding of inclusive, adaptive teaching approaches.
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) Equals curriculum, TEACCH approach, multi-sensory, structured learning environments.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
  • A nurturing, patient and flexible attitude.
