We are a welcoming and supportive mainstream primary school in Greenford, Ealing, seeking a dedicated, energetic, and passionate Teaching Assistant to support children with ASD in small group settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the child’s individual needs.
- Support a non‑verbal pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Use PECS, Makaton, and other communication strategies to facilitate learning and interaction.
- Implement sensory and visual educational strategies.
- Encourage engagement in learning activities and classroom routines.
- Support SEND pupils within small group interventions and learning activities.
- Deliver pre‑planned lessons and activities to small groups of up to 4–5 pupils.
- Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour.
- Build positive, trusting, and consistent relationships with pupils.
- Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, Teaching Assistants, and therapists where required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Experience working with non‑verbal pupils and alternative communication methods.
- Knowledge or experience using PECS and Makaton – essential.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and calmly.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Passionate about supporting children with SEND and building a career within education.
- Patient, energetic, and empathetic approach.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- Availability to start ASAP.
