We are a welcoming and supportive mainstream primary school in Greenford, Ealing, seeking a dedicated, energetic, and passionate Teaching Assistant to support children with ASD in small group settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the child’s individual needs.
  • Support a non‑verbal pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Use PECS, Makaton, and other communication strategies to facilitate learning and interaction.
  • Implement sensory and visual educational strategies.
  • Encourage engagement in learning activities and classroom routines.
  • Support SEND pupils within small group interventions and learning activities.
  • Deliver pre‑planned lessons and activities to small groups of up to 4–5 pupils.
  • Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour.
  • Build positive, trusting, and consistent relationships with pupils.
  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, Teaching Assistants, and therapists where required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Experience working with non‑verbal pupils and alternative communication methods.
  • Knowledge or experience using PECS and Makaton – essential.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and calmly.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Passionate about supporting children with SEND and building a career within education.
  • Patient, energetic, and empathetic approach.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Availability to start ASAP.
